Of the new pieces, the highlight was a medley of character themes with different instrumentation to the original pieces. Some even managed to merge the rock stylings with vicious violin solos. The concert also benefited from the debut of some brand new arrangements that made for a nice balance between the two styles with songs like the relaxing River of Life and the tense build up to the final battle in The Gate of Finis. The overpowering guitars had me all hyped up for the first performance, but the acoustic version played later in the night didnвЂ™t lose that much of the impact. The way that the composition piles on the tension before finally shifting into the cathartic cacophony that is the big boss music was amazing to hear in a live concert setting. It seems that the arrangers loved it as much as I do, since it was the only track repeated in the two different styles. My personal highlight was hearing arrangements of the boss battle music, Decisive Battle II. But after a while the concert managed to settle into a nice groove.
